A conservation easement on 46 acres in Chatham, N.H. permanently protects this
beautiful property from development. Providing wonderful views across open fields
and forest north toward Evans Notch, the land also abuts the White Mountain
National Forest and AMC’s Cold River Camp. Additionally, the Cold River runs
through a portion of the property and Charles Brook is its southern boundary. The
protection and preservation of scenic and open space, water quality, and wildlife
habitat on this property is an invaluable gift to the community.
"We wanted to protect our land forever. We wanted the woods to remain a certain way and the fields to be mowed forever. We could have accomplished this with a deed restriction, but there would have been no third party oversight. The tax benefits were a perk, but not our main motivation. We also knew that some of our neighbors would follow suit. The conservation easement on our property, which is consistent with the Town Plan's goal to ‘maintain rural character and natural qualities of Chatham through conservation and preservation,’ has opened the door to other possible easements in North Chatham." –Gary Punsky
