A conservation easement on 77 acres of fields and forest on the Simonton property permanently protects the historic Chamberlain Farm from
development. This is the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust’s first conservation easement in Maine.
"Over the years, many 'old-timers' have driven up the Chamberlain Road and stopped me in mid-stride ... to express how pleased they
were to see at least one old place kept the way it used to be. So, so many of these old farms have been abandoned or carved up over the
past fifty years that it has made conservation all the more important.
Our easement with the USVLT will ensure that my work, and that of the Chamberlains over the past 170 years, will endure forever. My hope
is that the Chamberlain Farm will not become an island of conservancy. I urge my neighbors in Brownfield and in the Upper Saco Valley to
explore the benefits of donating a conservation easement to the USVLT. The benefits are immediate and everlasting."
