Volunteer Duties Guide:
Newsletter Coordinator

Position Newsletter Coordinator

Duties Core Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the production, printing and mailing of the fall and spring newsletters
    • Be the point person for all aspects of newsletter production.
    • Working with the board, or board liaison to identify article topics and overall newsletter content.
    • Working with graphic designer, article authors, and any other contributors to the newsletter to meet established printing and mailing timelines.
    • Coordinate the printing and mailing of the newsletter.
Desired Skills Organization and good communication skills are needed to shepherd the production of the newsletter. Writing, editing, and graphic designing experience may be helpful but these aspects of the newsletter will be a group effort - the job of the editor is to coordinate and delegate the group effort.
Time Required Newlsetters are mailed in April and October, planning begins 6-8 weeks prior to the mailing date. Estimated time required over this 6-8 week period is 10-15 hours
Training The previous Newsletter coordinator will meet with new volunteer to discuss the process, general layout, resources, etc. and will be available throughout the process for guidance and to answer questions that may arise.

Volunteer Duties Guide:
Development Committee Member

Position Development Committee Member

Duties Core Responsibilities:
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement strategies for the land trust's outreach and financial obligations
    • Attend and participate in monthly development committee meetings and occasional USVLT events
    • Assist with planning of annual operations
    • Represent USVLT and articulate its mission and goals within local communities
Desired Skills
  • Belief in USVLT's mission
  • Connection with local communities, and experience working with non-profits
  • Organization, communication skills, and experience in the marketing of non-profits missions to the general public and policy makers is a plus
  • Experience with identifying grant funders and writing grant proposals
Time Required Attend and participate in monthly meetings is required (2 hours/month). Public outreach is a continual effort, but time commitments will vary according to the selection of events and campaign strategies.
