Cranmore Conservation Easement

Conservation Easement

Public Access

August 10, 2010

The Upper Saco Valley Land Trust holds an easement on 53.75 acres of the 824-acre Cranmore Mountain Resort property in Conway.  The easement permanently protects the watershed of Kearsarge Brook and Holt Brook as well 1,800 feet of undeveloped frontage on scenic Hurricane Mountain Road.  Because of an expansion of facilities at the resort and resulting impacts to wetlands, Cranmore was required to enter into a wetlands mitigation easement with USVLT; Cranmore, however, donated an easement on significantly more land than was required.  Protection of the property also enhances the scenic and ecological resources of the adjacent 908-acre Town of Conway Common Lands and The Nature Conservancy's Green Hills Preserve.

“I’ve watched the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust grow and have been impressed with the quality of conservation work it has done in the Valley. We are very glad to have formed this very natural relationship between the mountain and the Land Trust to protect our land along Keasarge Brook”

— Ben Wilcox, President, Cranmore Mountain Resort
The Cranmore Easement is also home to several great hiking and mountain biking trails. These trails are maintained by the White Mountains NEMBA chapter and connect to many of the other trails in the Green Hills. Click the map to enlarge.

From downtown North Conway, head northwest on US-302 W. After crossing the railroad tracks in Intervale, turn right onto Hurricane Mountain Road. Continue 1.9 miles up the road to the pull-off on the right hand side of the road, before the road winds sharply uphill. More parking is also available at the Kearsarge North Trailhead, just a quarter mile back down the road.
