What's Your Favorite Snow Activity?

Choose Your Own Snowy Adventure on a USVLT Protected Land!

Late March snow, milder temperatures, and additional hours of daylight are a fantastic combination for late winter exploration. Our communities have a long tradition of embracing winter and finding joy in outdoor activities. Your support has protected many lands that provide access to recreation in winter!  Here are some great places to explore in the snow.

Remember to follow all town rules and town parking guidelines (especially during active snow days).

  • Jackson Ski Touring Foundation offers an amazing network of Nordic ski trails. Did you know that several portions of the trail system are protected by USVLT? Glide past the historic barn along the Airport trail on the Old Pinkham Farm Easement, follow the Wildcat River on the Woodchuck Fields trails (Harding Conservation Easement), and explore the varied terrain of the East Pasture network (Windy Hill Farm Easement). These properties offer unique habitats to explore on skis, just remember to pick up your day/season pass from Jackson Ski Touring Foundation before you go.

If skiing isn't your thing, the trails listed below are just a few suggestions perfect for a variety of activities; including but not limited to, snowshoeing, fat biking, animal track and tree IDing, sledding and always, winter wandering!

  • Located just outside the town of Conway, NH, the Albany Town Forest features five miles of trail networks alongside the Saco River. For detailed maps of the trails visit Trail Finder.
  • The Menotomy Preserve, located just outside Fryeburg, ME is a great place to look for animal tracks, ID unique tree species and snowshoe to the shore of the Saco River.
  • The Climber's Preserve, located at the base of Cathedral Ledge and Whitehorse Ledge links to popular hiking and snowshoeing trails and sits adjacent to Echo Lake.
  • Pine Hill Community Forest offers options for every adventurer.

As always we thank you for your support! Have fun out there and send us your suggestions!
