April 3, 2024 - In celebration of National Poetry Month, we would like to share our #USVLTreads poetry recommendations in collaboration with local bookseller, White Birch Books. We'll also recommend a few USVLT public lands that have less traveled nooks, perfect for a quiet place to read outside later this month.

1. Wendell Berry - New Collected Poems

Get lost in this collection of poems all about land, nature, and our human connections to both.

2. Maxine Kumin - And Short the Season

A Pulitzer Prize-winning volume by a beloved New Hampshire author and former U.S. Poet Laureate.

3. Lisel Mueller - Alive Together

More Pulitzer Prize-winning works that celebrate humanity, community, and nature.

4. Robert Frost - New Hampshire

A Vintage Classics edition of Frost's 1923 collection of poems that won the Pulitzer Prize and contains some of his most famous and beloved poems. 

5. Mary Oliver - Owls and Other Fantasies

A collection of the author’s poems about all manner of birds, which were so important to her throughout her life. A fitting title during this season of migration and spring awakening!

6. May Sarton - Halfway to Silence

A collection of the author’s poetry from different periods of her career.

7. When Green Becomes Tomatoes: Poems for All Seasons_ by Julie Fogliano, illustrated by Julie Morstad
